Señor Procurador General:

I write on behalf of the Chicago Network for Justice and Peace following the disappearance of crime reporter María Esther Aguilar Cansimbe who was last seen leaving her home on 11 November 2009. The Chicago Network for Justice and Peace joins with all individuals and organizations that are concerned with her safety and urge that the federal and state authorities investigate her disappearance with the utmost urgency and resolve. Further, we urge the Mexican authorities to investigate all unresolved journalist killings and disappearances.

Our letter brings with it our concern for the family members of María Esther Aguilar Cansimbe as they await the outcome of the investigation.

The Chicago Network for Justice and Peace urges passage of a law that would make crimes against journalists a federal offence so that the authorities would have the power to investigate, prosecute and punish crimes such crimes.

Sincerely,

G. Dennis Conroy
Vice President
Chicago Network for Justice and Peace
