Salesian Project Street Children in Guayaquil

Guayaquil, Ecuador, S.A., Proyecto Saleciano Chicos de la Calle de Guayaquil – Salesian Project Street Children in Guayaquil.

Ecuador’s port Guayaquil is a bustling city that has attracted tens of thousands of people from the country side in search of work and a better life. However, these hopes, in many cases, didn’t materialize, creating a large underclass in which children became the greatest casualty.

The Proyecto Saleciano Chicos de la Calle de Guayaquil was created as an effort not only to rescue the street children but to provide for them a home in which their physical, and emotional needs are met. Children ages 8 to 16 are accepted, no questions asked, and are provided with a place to live where dedicated staff and volunteers attend to their needs. And now CNJP is assisting them by donating funds to develop a library. The books are being used to teach the basics of reading and writing as well as to instill in them the love of reading, and thus learning about the world beyond their environment.

We at CNPJ believe that it is through literacy that we can build a better world, and are extremely proud of contributing to the education of the Street Children of Guayaquil through our partnership with Salesian Project.
