Señor Procurador General:
I write on behalf of the Chicago Network for Justice and Peace following the abduction and murder of Zócalo de Saltillo co-founder and journalist Valentín Valdés Espinosa who was found dead on 8 January 2010. The Chicago Network for Justice and Peace joins with all individuals and organizations that are deeply shocked by this crime and urgently appeal to you to use your prestige and power to put an end to the abduction and killing of journalists. We urge that the most vigorous efforts be made to identify and bring those responsible to justice. Also, we call on the Mexican authorities to vigorously investigate all unresolved crimes perpetrated against the courageous journalists that risk their lives in the course of their work, daily overcoming fear and ignoring threats.
Our letter brings with it sincere condolences to the family of Valentín Valdés Espinosa on their grievous loss.
The Chicago Network for Justice and Peace commends you and your colleagues for your efforts to solve the heinous crimes perpetrated against journalists throughout México.
Atentamente
G. Dennis Conroy
Vice President
